A Look at IIT Kharagpur’s Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2016

Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) is IIT Kharagpur’s annual international corporate convergence organised by its Entrepreneurship Cell. It is one of the largest student-level Entrepreneurial summit in the country. GES 2016 was scheduled from 8 Settle’ in alliance with OnePlus; Co-presented by Augray, driven by Mahindra Rise and powered by 10,000 Startups and in association with Bloomberg.

ges_coverGES 2016 played host to Guest Lectures by eminent personalities like Deep Nishar, MD, Softbank, BK Chaturvedi [Padma Bhushan Awardee and Former Cabinet Member], Vani Kola [VC and MD, Kalaari Capital], Vikas Agarwal [General Manager, OnePlus India], Nishant Rao [Chairman, IAMAI and Global COO, Freshdesk] and many more.

Workshops covering essentials that are vital for an entrepreneur, were also being organized as a part of the summit.

GES 2016 played host to other major events like Empresario (Annual Global B-Model Competition) Finale, National Product Expo presented by 10,000 startups -a Nassom initiative. It’s a platform to showcase products that will define the future, Connect The Dots Conference, Startup Camp presented by Nagarro, Global Entrepreneurship Conference. This event also marked the launch of Kharagpur Angel Network (KAN), an initiative connecting the alumni, angel investors and VC’s to the IIT Kharagpur Startup Community, and Kharagpur Product Innovation Network (KPIN), a network to connect innovators with the proper co-founders.

This event also witnessed panel discussions on topics like Online Marketing to Offline Success presented by Brand Capital, Benefits of Moving your Network to the Cloud presented by Amazon web services activate, Scope of Tech Startups in India presented by AugRay, Road Ahead for Hospitality Startups presented by Infinity, E-Commerce v/s Retail – Future of Online Retail presented by OnePlus, Opportunities and Challenges in Radio cabs presented by Meru, which played host to panelists like Gagan Bhatia (GM, Uber), Sushma Rajagopalan (CEO and MD, ITC Infotech), Mr. Yogendra Yasupal (Co-Founder and CEO, Stayzilla), Mr Amitabh Ray (MD, Ericsson Global Services) and many more.

Further, the Summit had tons of Online and On-spot events pertaining to different aspects of pursuing entrepreneurship.

Empresario 2016 is the Annual Global Business Model Competition where business ideas in all fields ranging from Product and Service, Product Design to Social, get equal opportunity to win a cash prize and numerous other incentives.

It has received tremendous response in terms of registration which has reached the 2000 mark this year. Entrepreneurship Cell, IIT Kharagpur partnered with major venture firms in India for this event. Nexus Venture Partners, Palaash Ventures, Blume Venture Advisors, Kae Capital, Ankur Capital, Villgro, Ventureast, Angaros Group, TiE Kolkata, Calcutta Angel etc are a part of it now. This event had 110 semifinalists (70 from P&S Track and 40 from Social Track). All the teams were connected to industry specialists, professionals and experts for mentorship in regard to creating a market-ready and sustainable Business Model and help them validate their model.
