Reliance Retail, a part of Reliance Industries, is set to launch four LTE phones under its new brand ‘LYF’. Though the phones were expected to hit the market in Diwali, but nonetheless, they will be available by the end of this month.
Reliance Jio under its LYF brand has planned to launch these phones by the name of Earth, Water, Fire and Wind. The company announced the launch of phones this month as: Earth 1, premium smartphone, and three smartphones under the premium Water series. The rest will drop in later.
These phones will be available in all multi brand outlets and the company’s retail stores. Reliance Jio is supposedly in talks with eCommerce websites like Flipkart and Snapdeal. Besides selling the LYF brand, Reliance Retail stores will also sell partner phone brands like LG, Lenovo, Micromax, and Intex.
The phones will be available between a price cap of Rs. 4000 to Rs. 25,000 and will feature dual-SIM card slots, 4G support, VoLTE and VoWiFi options.
Reliance Jio claims to have laid more than 2.5 lakh kilometres of fibre-optic cables, covering 18,000 cities and over one lakh villages, with the aim of covering 100% of the nation’s population by 2018. It will provide legacy-free digital services over an end-to-end all-IP network, which can be seamlessly upgraded even to 5G.
In addition to the existing pan India 2300 MHz spectrum and 1800 MHz in 14 circles, Jio invested over Rs 10,000 crore during this year’s auction to acquire 800 MHz spectrum in 10 circles and 1800 MHz spectrum in 6 circles.
The company is all set to compete with players like Airtel and Vodafone, who have also started rolling 4G services in the country.
