HT Media Makes First Investment in Content Aggregator App Planet GoGo

Planet GoGo, a content aggregator app started by ex-LINE senior management executives Daman Soni and Rajat Gupta, has raised seed investment from HT Media (through their subsidiary HT Digital Media Holdings Limited) and North Base Media (NBM). The raised funding will be used mainly for user growth and traction. Going forward, it will also be supporting multiple languages since vernacular content consumption on the phone is increasing at a rapid pace.

This is the first investment of HT Media in the mobile content discovery space. “This investment is in sync with HT’s endeavour to support new startups in digital media and ad tech space,” said Amit Garg, business head, HT Digital Media Holdings Ltd. GoGo will also benefit from its partnership with North Base Media, which is an investment firm that focuses on media and media technology in the world’s growth markets.

Planet GoGo was founded in September 2015 and launched its first android app GoGo in November 2015. The company’s core proposition is to solve the problem of content discovery for Indian smartphone users by providing them updates and content on their lock screen. GoGo is a lock screen app for content discovery that delivers personalised content and news to Android users. Using the app, users earn ‘GoGo points’ which they can redeem for free talk time.

Rajat Gupta, co-founder of GoGo says, “With the ever increasing number of smartphone users, GoGo focuses to revolutionize content consumption for mobile users without having them to spend for it. A large part of the population today rely on apps for everyday content needs and GoGo provides users with curated quality content on-the-go.”
