Often when one has some leisure time at hand, a question arises of what to do? Thanks to each of our smartphones and the Internet, one isn’t allowed to stay bored for a long time. For those who prefer picking up some hobby or going out for some activity, discovery becomes a challenge. To come to the aide of this segment of the population is a new New Delhi based mobile app startup called ‘GoYayy‘.
Founded by Saurabh Awasthi, Sunny Katiyar, Prashant Verma in September 2015, the app went live earlier this month. It is a mobile first marketplace for individuals/corporates to discover and book leisure activities to unwind on a usual day, as per their mood. Catering to different likes and mood, it has activities that range from active to passive to gastronomic and more. The users can browse for activities they like, book them and make payment on the app itself.
On being asked why GoYayy, the team responded “There is a gap between service providers and consumers when it comes to recreational activities”. They are solving this through ‘mood based discovery and booking of recreational activities’, while providing analytics based support to service providers.
The company has activities ranging from cooking workshops to paintball, and monetizes through the commission it will charge the service providers for each booking coming from its platform.
The company is targeting the Internet population between 16 and 40, with primary focus on Corporates and Students. GoYayy will continue to work in Delhi NCR till it reaches a stable stage and then will expand to other cities, starting with Mumbai and Pune.
The company is bootstrapped and is soon going to start looking for external funding.
At present, Google is indeed a companion for those who are looking to discover fun and engaging activities. GoYayy has a model which is similar to other activity discovery platforms, primarily including GiftXoXo and Cleartrip’s Activities app. The app does have a comprehensive list of activities, however the basic UI and mandatory login on home screen might deter some curious users. Nonetheless, an activity discovery mobile platform might just hit right with those always looking to try something new.
