Bill Gross is the founder of idealab, where he founded some 100 companies in past 20 years. In the video he explains the reason behind the success and failure of a startup. What matters the most for a startup to work? Is it the idea? Business model? funding? team? Or timing? He found one factor that matters the most and the result was even surprising to him. He explains how and what makes company a success with some great examples like AirBnB, Youtube, Z.com and Uber.
Gross has been an entrepreneur since high school, when he founded a solar energy company. In college, he patented a new loudspeaker design, and after school he started a company that was later acquired by Lotus, and then launched an educational software publishing company. Now, he serves on the boards of companies in the areas of automation, software and renewable energy.
