OnlineTyari Raises Rs 5Cr from Marqee Global Angel and Others

Test preparation platform, OnlineTyari which was founded in 2014, has  raised Rs 5 crore from marquee global Angel investors and VC investors including 500 Startups, Mohandas Pai, Tandem Capital, Vikram Chachra of Eight Capital and Aloke Bajpai, Co-founder & CEO of IxIgo. The funds will be used to further strengthen the technology and for expansion.

OnlineTyari, through its multilingual app and website, allows people to prepare for job-oriented tests including Civil Services, Banking Services, UPSC, GATE and State Government jobs. People buy question banks, online tests, articles and e-books on the platform and also collate notes to prepare for competitive examinations.

With an install base of over 2mn downloads and a daily active user base of more than 2 lakh people across India, OnlineTyari has seen an immense growth rate. The app caters largely to the vernacular speaking population of India and is currently available in Hindi and English. The company plans to make the platform available in other languages soon.

Mohandas Pai, Chairman, Manipal Global Education and ex-CFO, Infosys, says, “Online education is helping our students and young professionals participate and excel in the knowledge-driven economy. A vital component of this wave of access to information is to ensure that our languages are respected and catered to with considered attention. Students familiar with Indian languages must not feel marginalized, and it is imperative that they have access to the highest quality content in any language they choose.”

The company has been founded by two IIT Kanpur alumni-Vipin Agarwal and Bhola Ram Meena. Putting forth his opinion on the matter, Vipin Agarwal stated, “OnlineTyari aims to revolutionise the $20billion market need for education services in India. This is our contribution towards bringing literacy and livelihood to everyone and towards achieving a truly inclusive Digital India Mission.”

The multilingual platform is optimised for use on low end smartphones and already has deep penetration in vernacular user base. The app has more than 2 million installs.
