Bengaluru based YourStory has raised an undisclosed amount of investment from Ratan Tata, former Infosys board member T V Mohandas Pai, Vani Kola managing director of Kalaari Capital and Karthee Madasamy, managing director of Qualcomm Ventures India.
The funding announcement was made by Shradha Sharma, founder and chief editor of YourStory, in a blog post. As Shradha Sharma mentions they have bootstrapped untill now and this is their first round of funding.
The company is launching a tech product which will help people to write, talk and view their own stories in native Indian languages, as reported by VCCircle.
Founded in 2008, the company generates revenue from advertisements on the site and also from the events it hosts. It is a team of 50, out of which around 18 are part of the editorial team. The company covers stories about entrepreneurs, startups, inspirational life stories and so on.
Other player in the field, VCCircle got acquired by News Corp in March. In July, News In Shorts raised an investment of $20 million from Tiger Global in Series B funding. And in November 2014, Indian social content website ScoopWhoop raised an amount of Rs. 10 crore from Bharti Softbank.
