As part of the deal, the Rutogo team will be joining ixigo to scale its cabs app by building a marketplace for inter-city taxi owners and vendors.
Founded in May 2015 by Aneesh Rayancha and Venus Dhuria, Rutogo is a cab aggregator marketplace where nearly 100 taxi vendors from across the country are connected under a single platform and customers can choose an operator based on price, availability and the rating of the operator.
Aloke Bajpai, Co-Founder & CEO, ixigo said, “This acquisition fits well with our overall strategy of providing comprehensive choice across intra-city and inter-city taxi booking options. We will be launching outstation taxis in the coming weeks, and will also be opening up the cabs marketplace and partner with other booking apps in the inter-city taxis space shortly.”
ixigo had launched their meta-search app for cabs on the Google Play Store a few months before. Ixigo cabs app allows travelers to search across app-based taxi providers such as Ola, Uber and Easycabs within seconds and book them in one click. A per latest data, it has around 100,000 downloads and the company will be rolling out its application for iOS users in a week’s time. The company claims to have six million monthly active users. And it offers deals from over 25,000 online and offline travel agents and hotel chains.
The app until now was limited to intra-city taxis and autos transport, and now with the help of Rutogo, ixigo will expand into the inter-city tourist segment thereby making it more convenient for its audience of travelers.
Venus Dhuria, Co-founder, Rutogo said, “The market potential for app-based taxi booking is estimated to be worth $9 billion, and inter-city cab bookings will form a majority of that, given the higher value of such transactions.”
Founded in 2007 by Aloke Bajpai and Rajnish Kumar, this is the second acquisition in the last one month for ixigo, which earlier announced that it had acqui-hired ‘The Indian Backpacker’. In June 2015, Micromax had made a strategic investment in ixigo, through which the travel company plans to go from its 6.5 million monthly active users to over 30 million monthly active users by the end of 2016.
