Chinese smartphone maker Meizu is entering in India and is rumoured to launch a MX5 smartphone at an event in New Delhi on August 26. The MX5 is Meizu’s latest flagship smartphone, and belongs to the mid- budget segment. It is expected to compete with OnePlus 2, HTC One M9 Plus, ASUS ZenFone 2 Deluxe and Xiaomi Mi4.
MX5 comes with a 5.5-inch full HD AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, and is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6795 processor with PowerVR G6200 MP4 GPU. It features a 20.7MP rear camera and 5MP front facing camera. The smartphone packs 3GB RAM, 64GB built-in storage, 3,150mAh battery, and also features a fingerprint sensor on the home button for added security.
On the connectivity front, it will come with dual-SIM configuration with LTE support, Wi-fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.1 and supports Android 5.0 along with Meizu’s Flyme OS 4.5.
At present, Meizu has a global presence in Hong Kong, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Israel, Russia, Ukraine, Indonesia, Thailand etc. the company introduced the M1 Note 5.5-inch phablet in May and more recently, its next iteration, the M2 Note. Both phones are listed on Amazon.com Inc.’s Indian site with a price tag of Rs. 9,999, for each.
In May, Chinese smartphone maker CoolPad has also announced its plans to enter in India to join the race with existing Chinese brands like Huawei, ZTE, Oppo, OnePlus and Xiaomi. It will be interesting to see how this new entrant establishes itself in the Indian market amidst so much competition.
