New Delhi based BetterButter, an online social, food discovery platform, has raised a seed funding round led by growX Ventures. The platform currently focuses on recipes, allowing users to create, share, discover, and appreciate recipes, and aims to become a one stop shop for all things kitchen in the future.
Apart from growX, Singapore-based investment firm M&S Partners, angel investor Manish Singhal, and GSF Founder Rajesh Sawhney, also participated in the round. Manish will also take on a Board Observer role in BetterButter.
The startup was founded by Sukhmani Bedi and Niyaz Laiq, graduates of Cambridge, Insead, and SOAS. The company allows its users to share their favourite recipes from family classics to their own inventions and discover new recipes from households across India and from celebrity chefs.
In this space, Gurgaon-based Digital Food Talk Pvt Ltd, which runs an online food community Food Talk India and Food Talk Plus app, has raised a seed investment of $500,000, just yesterday. In June, Facebook group EatTreat, that allows its users to narrate the experience of their food journey,raised an investment of $350,000 from 15 investors.
Three days back, growX has also led a $1 million pre-series A round in Bengaluru-based hyper-local professional services startup, Qyk.
Recipes have emerged as a major category of engagement for Indians online. A few other recipe sites are spiceindiaonline.com, sanjeevkapoor.com, and rakskitchen.net.
