Instagram is rolling out a search feature on its website to search for hashtags, locations, and user accounts directly from desktop. The company has also created landing pages for hashtags and locations, so that users will be able to see some of the top posts placed on the top of recent photos.
Instagram hopes to make the web experience better complement its mobile browsing experience. When a user is searching for a location then it will bring up images from that location alongside a map, while searching for a username, it will bring up individual accounts and hashtags’ search on the landing page that shows all images tagged with that label.
Last month, Instagram introduced improved search and discovery feature inside its mobile app, expanded its ‘Explore’ tab with curated collections of images and enabled the ability to search trending tags and places.
Facebook owned Instagram has more than 300 million monthly active users with 70% of the traffic coming from outside the US.
