Naspers owned, online travel group Ibibo has recently launched a carpooling app named Ryde that allow users to share rides and travel expenses.
As TechCircle reports, passengers looking for rides can search for registered members on the app offering rides, then book their ride and preferred seat. Following which they need to make the payment, chat with the driver and decide the pick-up location. The app also allows the drivers to choose their source, destination and seat price. They can also search for passengers who are looking for a ride to the same destination. Both the passengers and riders can write a review about each other after the ride. The app also maintains a history of past rides.
The app also provides a facility where users can check verified member profiles, send them messages before and after booking requests and it also enables real time tracking of the driver and vehicle. Drivers can create custom preferences such as luggage size, waiting time, music, smoking etc.
There are already many companies that are functional in similar space such as international ventures that launched in India recently- BlaBlaCar, Rocket Internet’s Tripda and an Indian startup GoTogether. The reason that this service stands from others is because it is offering both intra and inter city rides.
Earlier this month, New Delhi based taxi aggregator Carzonrent acquired local intra city ride sharing venture Ridingo.
