Music label Saregama(HMV) has launched an online store to stream and sell music. The songs will be sold individually at Rs 9 per song, except those in premium albums which will be sold at Rs 449 per album.

The online library consists of 1.1 lakh songs in 14 languages with more to come soon. No specific limit is kept for number of downloads. However, all the songs are only available on mp3 format as of now.

The move is intended to curb piracy by providing music at cheaper rates and also providing songs which are not available at other places. The company claims to have partners in Airtel, Vodafone, Tata Docomo, Aircel, BSNL, Idea, Reliance, Orange and Etisalat among others to increase distribution, as reported by medianama.

The company is working on launching a service next month where users will be able to download uncompressed files at an extra cost. Moreover, it is also planning to add an app for sampling and downloading which is set to be launched next month.
