Food Ordering and Delivery App Swiggy Raises $2M from Accel and SAIF Partners

Bengaluru-based food ordering and delivery app, Swiggy has raised 2 million from Accel and SAIF Partners. The company will use the raised funding for expanding into Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai.

The app accepts orders from users and has delivery fleet who pick-up the food from restaurants and deliver it to customers doorstep. It claims of having fulfilled over 30,000 orders so far. User can pay for their order with cash on delivery or online for all its partner restaurants. Currently, it is operating only in select areas in Bengaluru, and gearing up for expansion.

Another funded startup in the space is, location-based food ordering service, TinyOwl which has raised $15 million in its series B round led by Matrix Partners. In January this year, India based restaurant listing site Zomato had announced that it was in talks to raise about $100 million in fresh funding. The firm has also launched food delivery in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Foodpanda has already acquired its Indian rivals JustEat and TastyKhana to expand faster inorganically.
