Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Xiaomi has launched its Yi Action Camera that costs $64, half the price of the entry-level GoPro Hero ($130). The device is being sold by Xiaomi, but is manufactured by its partner company Xiaoyi.
The device is only available in China at the moment, and comes in two versions – the basic version bundles with batteries and a charging cable, while the $80 travel version bundles an additional selfie stick. The camera having 16-megapixel camera uses Sony’s Exmor R BSI CMOS image sensor that can shoot 1080p video at 60 fps, and 720p at 120 fps.
The device weighs 72 grams and supports microSD cards of upto 64GB. It also includes Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. The Yi Action Camera can go as far as 40 meters under water.
Xiaomi’s other products including an air purifier, and blood test device can be remotely controlled by apps, same is the case for the Yi Action Camera.
