Worldwide Tablet Shipments to Grow to 269M Units by 2019: IDC

According to latest forecast by International Data Corporation (IDC), worldwide tablet shipments is expected to reach 234.5 million units this year, the number represents a 2.1% growth year-on-year from 2014. It is further expected to touch 269.4 million units by 2019.

The tablet shipments growth fell down 3.2% to 76.1 million units in 4Q2014, it was the first time the number of shipments declined since the year 2000. However IDC expects a positive growth for the market in the coming years.

In India too, the tablet segment saw shipments of 0.96 million units in October-December 2014 period, a increase of 3.6% quarter-over-quarter.

In terms of platform, Android is forecast to remain the global leader with close to 63% share of the global tablet market, while IDC expects iOS volume share of the market to decline in 2015, reaching levels below that of the past three years to 25.6%.

Windows is likely to grow from 5.1% in 2014 to 7% this year and 14.1% in 2019. “Microsoft is doing a lot of good things right now and we believe, the launch of Windows 10 later this year will not only have a significant impact on Microsoft’s share of the market, but on the industry as a whole,” said IDC Research Director Tablets Jean Philippe Bouchard.
