YouTube is soon to come up with an age-appropriate online video library for kids called YouTube Kids.
As per USA Today, the app is free, and launches on 23rd Feb, 2015. However, its compatibility at present is limited to just Android devices.
The report mentions that the services on YouTube Kids would not be the same as the ones on YouTube. It would feature a home-screen with eight options, specially designed for kids, related to kids TV shows and other popular recommended clips, majorly related to the ones with educative purposes. Nevertheless, the app shall as well have the option of normal way searching i.e., typing, with however, bigger tap targets.“The images are big as are the tap targets for small fingers, and since most younger children can’t type they can search with voice,” says Ben-Yair, the project’s group Product Manager.
The app has a special feature which would enable kids to search for videos with voice command. This feature has been installed in the app for making the operations easier, for many children won’t be able to type properly. Also, certain inappropriate and adult words have been blocked on the search bar to restrict the user from going through videos related to those words.
