The much awaited free voice calling feature of Whatsapp is finally out but is still not available for all of its users.
The news got viral when a Reddit user posted screenshots of the voice calling feature in the app. According to him the feature got enabled when when of his friends called him, as reported by Geeky Gadgets.
The feature has not been activated for all users. It will only be enabled when someone who has it enabled calls them through Whatsapp, it is similar to an invite system.
In September 2014, Whatsapp had announced to launch this feature. The delay in the rollout of the feature was due to the technical hurdles faced by the technicians, said Whatsapp CEO Jan Koum, as according to a TOI report.
Recently, instant messaging app Hike had also added free voice calling feature to its app. The feature allows its users to make free calls to other Hike users using the data pack.
The competition among the apps is getting tough with the new added feature. Initially it was Viber, then other apps like Line etc, with Hike opening its gateways to this new feature and now Whatsapp also been spotted in the race, the heat of being the best will rise. They will have to make a continuous effort to improve their services, like the saying goes, ‘Survival of the Fittest’!
