India’s homegrown news reader app, NewsHunt has secured Rs 250 crore in series C funding led by New York-based hedge fund Falcon Edge Capital with participation from existing investors Matrix Partners India, Sequoia Capital India and Omidyar Network. In September 2014, NewsHunt received $16.5 million in Series B funding.
Launched in 2010, the app has more than 75 million downloads till date. Last year, it had launched an ebookstore for publishers with over 10 million local language eBooks downloaded till date by more than 2 million users, out of which 40 percent are paid users.
NewsHunt publishes content in 12 languages and covers 100 + regional publications. NewsHunt’s users browse more than 1.7 billion pages each month and it published 25000 + articles daily as per the company.
