Google will shut down its Gtalk messenger on February 16, 2015. While it has already been trying to promote its Hangouts messenger, with this move it is forcing its million of users to shift from Gtalk to Hangouts.
As reported by TOI, signs of Gtalk being shut down became obvious when Google decided to cut support of security and version for the Chrome extenstion. As highlighted by Google the ‘IM service will be wholly replaced by the Hangouts app, which can be used only via its Chrome web browser.’
Hangouts comes in-built in Google apps like Gmail, Google+ etc., as a desktop extension and as a mobile app. It offers Gtalk’s features like Video calling, conferencing, voice calling etc. along with features like entertainment apps, stickers and so on. One of the reasons why people still use Gtalk is the simplicity for those who only want the good old plain chat.
