Instant messaging app Hike has added free voice calling feature to its app. The announcement was made on 26th January, Republic Day. The new feature allows Hike users to make free calls to other Hike users using their mobile data pack.
In order to call your friend, you need to visit his/her profile on Hike and then click on the dialer icon. Hike call can be paused or put on speaker. The free voice calling feature is presently available only for Android version, as according to a report by VCcircle.
The users who have Hike presently will have to update their app to get access to the new feature and the new downloads will already have the new feature.
In January 2015, Hike had acquired US based free voice calling firm Zip Phone. That time they were working on the plan to include the free voice calling feature to their app. Which now is finally functional.
Hike was founded in 2012 by Kavin Mittal, Bharti Airtel’s chief Sunil Mittal’s son. It provides peer-to-peer chat facility along with SMS service and now also has free voice calling facility. The SMS facility that Hike provides is a key feature as those who are not Hike users receive the messages but their reply will charge them.
Its competitors include Whatsapp, WeChat, Line, Viber and Nimbuzz.
