E-commerce Roundup: Spencer’s, Babumoshay and More

Spencer’s Retail is looking forward to enter the e-commerce arena. The electronic segment will be ready by April this year, as confirmed by Shashwat Goenka, their Group Head for Retailing. Spencer’s Retail is one of the companies of RPG, headquartered in Mumbai. The company has no plans of merging up with present e-commerce retailers, their e-platform will have products from food and groceries, apparel, furniture, jewellery etc.

As a report by Trak says, the final products to be listed on their e-platform are being decided by the management of the company, along with the cost and delivery terms.

“In apparel segment we are looking for a new sourcing point in Kerala. We have developed seven apparel brands including men’s wear, women’s wear, kids wear and sports-wear. In West Bengal, we are focusing on local food items including varieties of fish and rice.” said Mr Goenka.

Spencer’s retail have more than 30,000 employees in their retail department and 125 stores in 36 cities. The retail chain operates as Convenience stores (Spencer’s) and Hypermarkets (Hyper) in India.

The hypermarkets comprise of 21 percent of the retail space. 69 percent of the hypermarket section comprises of food and grocery followed by apparel that is 8 percent.


Image Source: babumoshay is another new entrant in the e-commerce sector. Started by a few Rotarians, Babumoshay is an online shopping site for daily need items like vegetables, fruits and also fashion products.

Director, Business Development of Babumoshay, Divyansh Talwar said, “Keeping in mind the increasing number of nuclear families, the portal will have a special category for vegetables, fruits in natural and cut shapes and grocery products,” further adding, “All such fruits and vegetables will be specifically treated in a hygienic environment to get rid of all acidic effect of these items and ensure that our customers get best what they deserve at a price of local vendor.”

As according to a Firstpost report, the portal has launched various kinds of memberships, entitling privileged and corporate members, allowing customers to avail a variety of discounts online and offline such as discounts in hotels, restaurants, path-labs, hospitals, airlines, etc.

Flipkart Partners E-Learning Portal TCY 

Flipkart partners with education portal TCY online to provide test preparation tools. The coaching material will be available from 19th January for over  90 exam categories. It will be exclusively available for 90 days on Flipkart.

Flipkart Retail Director, Gaurav Gupta said, “In recent years, the e-learning space in India has seen a huge surge in demand. With this exclusive partnership, we are introducing a range of new age test preparation tools for students and learners in India. Products from TCYonline will add more depth and a new dimension to our rapidly expanding e-learning category.”
