Shopify has partnered with m-commerce enabler platform MartMobi to power mobile commerce for its merchants. With this pre-built integration, merchants can acquire a presence on smartphones and tablets. The MartMobi platform provides mobile, tablet sites and native Android and iOS apps.
While there are several stores using MartMobi already overseas, Shopify is targeting the Indian retailers with this move. In India Shopify merchants such as Postergully and Madinindia are currently using MartMobi platform.
“With mobile commerce hitting 800 percent growth in 2014 and more than 40 percent traffic coming from Mobile devices, it’s time for merchants to go mobile”, said Satya Krishna Ganni, Founder and CEO of MartMobi in closing.”
More than 5 million internet users are added every month, and more than half of all Indian Internet users are on mobile. Industry analysts expect more than 70 percent of online sales to happen on mobile in the near future.
Previously, GetitBazaar, an eCommerce marketplace had also made a tie up with Shopify in order to provide SMEs associated with it an opportunity to have an independent eCommerce website.
Founded in 2006, Shopify officially launched its service in Indian market in June 2013, through a partnership with SingTel, the company which owns nearly 32% of Airtel. Last year in December, Shopify has raised USD 100 million in its Series C funding.
