Gangnam Style Breaks YouTube View Counter

Gangnam Style breaks another record! On 3rd December, it has set the record of highest viewership on YouTube. With over 2.15 billion views, it broke the view counter on YouTube, as it reached the maximum viewership limit!

In a statement on Google Plus, the site admitted that it could not handle the video popularity. It further added that their counter did not register viewership beyond 32 bit integer (=2,147,483,647 views), and they had to upgrade it to a 64 bit integer (=9,223,372,036,854,775,808 views), just because ‘Gangnam Style’ reached its upper limit of 32 bit integer.

Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ video’s record setting does not stop with YouTube only, it also tops Guinness World Record  for the video with maximum likes on YouTube! This video has surpassed the Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby’ as the most popular video with 806,283,968 views, as according to CBSNews.

Dan Barrett, Guinness World Records Community Manager, comments, ‘Having been the “Have you seen this?!” video of the last two months across the web, it’s great to be able to award a record for this tremendously popular video. In years past it was unthinkable that something  would be viewed a hundred million times, and now “Gangnam Style” has achieved more than twice this figure in just 3 months on YouTube’, as per company’s blog post.

According to another report by CBSN, YouTube carried out and published a comparison between ‘Gangnam Style’ and ‘Call Me Maybe’ by Carly Rae Jepsen. The comparison showed that ‘Call Me Maybe’ had 1.5 million views each day while, ‘Gangnam Style’ had over 6 million views per day, which is a lot!

The Korean pop star Psy has surely impressed its worldwide audience with his signature “Horse Dance” in ‘Gangnam Style’!
