US based on-demand car service, Uber has launched a new low-cost service for India called Uber Go. This new offering is sure to compete Ola, TaxiForSure and even auto rickshaws in most parts of the country.This is expected to be rolled out across 10 Indian cities and will be 15-20% cheaper than its UberX line.
As per a TOI report, the base fare in Uber Go is INR 40 and is priced at INR 11/KM with minimum fare price of INR 75. Its competitor Ola charges INR 100 for the first 4-6 kilometers while Taxi For Sure currently running an offer of INR 49 for 4 kilometers.
Three days back, Ola added auto rickshaw to its inventory, on the lines of a Pune based on demand-auto service startup Autowalle.
“With the recent launch of a mobile wallet and the addition of UberGo, we are now accessible to millions of Indians. UberGo is specially designed for the needs of the Indian consumer and driver partners,” said Bhavik Rathod, GM, Uber Bangalore.
In April, this taxi service had launched its affordable line of UberX priced 25-40 percent cheaper than its flagship Uber Blacks.
In June this year, Uber has raised USD 1.2 billion in a fresh round at a valuation of USD 18 billion led by mutual-fund managers Fidelity Investments, Blackrock and Wellington Management.
Uber counts India as its second largest market after the US in terms of cities covered, ten at present. It had made partnership with redBus.in, an Indian bus ticketing platform, to together present an offer to its customers. Also, in India the firm has opened offices in New Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Chennai. In addition to expanding into new markets, Uber has also been adding new products and features over time.
