On Thursday, France announced issuance of visas to Indians in 48 hours and launched 8 more visa issuance centres across India to cater to the growing number of Indians visiting the country.
The French embassy also launched a mobile application ‘Chalo Paris’, which it had announced in July this year, to help travellers move around in Paris and give necessary detailed information about restaurants, shopping areas, tour spots, language, maps, emergency numbers, etc.
Also, it lists the price of restaurants, tickets at tour spots and other services in INR instead of EUROS, and also has a converter to help convert Euros into Rupees, which makes it very convenient for the Indian tourists. Additionally it features a French tutorial page, wherein a tourist can access some commonly used statements in French, Hindi and English. It will be available for iOS and Android but hasn’t been listed on the stores yet.
Here is a video which shows how the app works:
French Ambassador, Francois Richier said, the move was promoted because of the growing number of Indian travelling to France. The tourist and business visas will be delivered within 48 hours or two working days from January 1, 2015.
The number of visas delivered by French Consulates in India has jumped by 33 per cent in 2014 as compared to 2013, with a total of 80,000 visas delivered from January to October. By the end of the year, the Embassy expects the figure to cross 90,000. Around 3.5 lakh Indians visit France annually, however this constitutes only 0.23 per cent of the total foreign tourists visiting France.
