Burger King Partners with eBay to Let India Pre-order a Burger Online

American fast food chain company Burger King has partnered with eBay India to let Indians pre-book “Whopper” burgers at a price of INR128 (USD 2) each. The offline chain will go live from November 5, the fast food joint is initially set to open at a mall in New Delhi and soon will expand to 12 outlets – six in Delhi and six in Mumbai, in the next two-three months.

Foodies can pre-book the burger from 3rd to 5th of November on eBay,  for which they’ll get a voucher that they can redeem after 9th November, against they selected burger and a Burger King T-shirt.

As per Livemint report, with an investment of up to INR 2-2.5 crore per outlet, Burger King is eyeing other potential locations like Pune, Chennai and Bangalore. Last year, private equity company Everstone Capital Management announced a joint venture with Burger King Corp. to establish its presence in India.

Initially, the company will start with its vegetarian and chicken burgers, and subsequently add lamb burgers to its menu. “The initial plan is to roll out a store every few weeks to keep the momentum going,” said a person with direct knowledge of the matter.

Coca-Cola India also launched its zero sugar soda – Coke Zero through exclusive online pre-ordering on Amazon in late September. Online pre-ordering seems to have become a trend, with Xiaomi and Motorola in particular experimenting and succeeding in this strategy on Flipkart.

I must admit that I am just a bit baffled by this trend for Food Items … after all this is not Home Delivery .. it is Eating In … so, why would I pre-book ..and STILL stand in a line?
