Spice Picks Flipkart to be the Exclusive Online Seller of its Handsets

Telecom firm Spice Retail has entered into an agreement with Flipkart to sell its select handsets through e-commerce store Flipkart starting from mid-September. Flipkart is expecting to sell 100,000 smartphone untis in the initial few days.

“This will include a dedicated store on Flipkart for Spice products that will allow its customers to choose from a variety of offerings,” Spice Retail said in a statement.

However, as per the Know Your Mobile report, Spice aims to capture 10 per cent market share of the overall online sales for smartphones. Flipkart has been also adopted by other companies for selling on their platform like Xiaomi Mi3, Redmi 1S, Moto G among others.

On the day of the launch Xiaomi Mi3 smartphone, this Indian eCommerce site crashed because of the heavy traffic it received to buy the phone, and in about half an hour, all pieces were sold out. On the site crash, the spokesperson said, “Based on the phenomenal response we saw during the registration phase, we had anticipated a traffic spike and had scaled up our web services accordingly. But the number of customers who logged in immediately after the phone went live on our site caused the process to slow down for a while. We are expanding our capacity to provide a smoother shopping experience the next time.”

Related News: Apart from this, Spice, Micromax and Karbonn is planning to launch products based on ‘Android One’ platform in India. The price of the handsets are set between INR 7,000 to INR 10,000 by these three Indian manufacturer.

Recently in July, The company had released its its first hexa-core powered smartphone- Stellar 526 priced at INR 11,499. It has also launched another KitKat based phone Stellar 520 for INR 8,999.
