Sony releases ‘AR fun’ Augmented Reality Camera App for Xperia Smartphones

After launching the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 compact smartphones in India, Sony has now unveiled the ‘AR fun’ augmented reality camera app for Xperia Smartphones, currently available on Google play. The app is available for Xperia handsets running Android 4.2 and above but, company didn’t disclose a compatible list however. It comes built-in with the latest Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact devices.

As NDTV Gadgets reported, the new app allows users to add 3D objects, text, images and other AR effects on the video and images captured through the smartphone’s camera.

AR fun lets you create funny and interesting pictures and videos. You can doodle your thoughts in the 3D augmented reality space or throw objects like paintballs and buckets on faces in the viewfinder. Create memorable pictures and videos playing virtual pranks on your friends, or on cute little elves and see how they respond!

Sony’s FACE RECOGNITION Technology and SmartAR* Engine automatically detect faces and 3D environments and decorate them with fun AR items.

Apart from this, last month, Sony had also introduced 6 new ‘Underwater Apps’ such as Goldie, Photo Lab, Platimal, Rainy-oke, Sink Sunk, and Tiny Umbrella which showcase the water-resistance capabilities in Sony Xperia smartphones.
Three days back, Sony had officially announced its augmented reality headset called “SmartEyeglass, which is expected to be available by March 2015 with ‘holographic’ display technology. It is also closing down its PlayStation Home in Asia by March 2015, but the service will continue in America and Europe.
