GoQii bags angel funding from Whatsapp’s Neeraj Arora and AWS’ Marco Argenti

California-headquartered, wearable technology company, Goqii has raised angel funding from WhatsApp’s Neeraj Arora and Marco Argenti, Vice president of mobile at AWS. The company aims to utilize the raised funds for marketing, brand building, technology platform development as well as for extend its business operations to Middle East by next month and the US by December this year.

“We just launched the commercial version of GOQii in India and we will use the funds for scaling in a major way,” Gondal told VCCircle. “Unlike other wearable devices makers, we are basically a services company and giving people lifestyle coaching via GOQii Coach. We are seeing massive opportunities across the world and hence the expansion,” he said.

The company was founded by Vishal Gondal in February this year, having offices in Mumbai and Shenzhen (China). It had launched Goqii band on August 1st that can track steps, calories, distance, active time as well as ‘Karma Points’. It comes with full touch display, a vibrating alarm, ultra-lightweight water resistant construction with skin sensitive materials, and automatic wireless syncing via Bluetooth LE.

The other players are also included in this space like Nike Fuels, Fitbit, Jawbone UP & Samsung’s Galaxy Gear Fit.


The company is offering subscription for Goqii’s ecosystem, including band, experts, app, coach and karma, available at INR 6,999 for six-months and INR 11,999 for yearly packages. Goqii is also backed by other investors such as Madhuri Dixit Nene, Amit Singhal (Google), Goutam Godhwani (SimplyHired) Steve Luczo, (Seagate) and others.

According to Accenture Plc’s digital consumer tech survey 2014, consumers in India were ranked highest among six countries—including Australia, Canada, South Africa, the UK, and the US—in the percentages of people that plan to buy consumer electronics products during 2015 in numerous categories. Indians, the survey said, were most interested in buying fitness monitors, smart watches and Internet-enabled eyeglasses.
