WhatsApp Hits 600 Million Monthly Active Users

WhatsApp CEO, Jan Koum announced in a Twitter post that his mobile app has reached 600 million monthly active users. In April this year, It passed 500 million active user milestone, 100 million more from December 2013.

The other players in this category includes WeChat, which claims to have 438 million active users, Tango with 70 million active users, while Viber is close to 100 million active users.

Earlier this year, the app had gotten acquired by Facebook for USD 19 billion. California-Headquartered, WhatsApp service was launched in 2009 by Jose Torres, Jan Koum and Brian Acton.

Recently, Facebook forced its mobile users to download its standalone messenger app. Globally users did not respond so well to that, even though most did download the messenger, people still did not prefer having multiple apps for using Facebook. It is not clear why even after acquiring Whatsapp, Facebook is still trying so hard to push its messenger that too so drastically. In any case, Whatsapp seems to keep on growing better than its competitors.
