China’s Apple ‘Xiaomi’ Comes to India

miSmartphone brand Xiaomi, often called ‘Apple’ of China has launched its official website- to make its debut in India very soon. It is also planning to enter into Indian smartphone market in the next few weeks. The firm is trying to gain popularity through its official Facebook page.

Founded in April 2010 by CEO Lei Jun, Co-Founder & Vice President Hong Feng, Liu De, Huang Jiangji, Zhou Guangping, Li Wanqiang and Lin Bin. It is known for designing, developing and selling smartphones, mobile apps and other consumer items.

The firm has sold over 17 million handsets in China and launched its products in Singapore in February this year. Currently, its portfolio includes devices like Mi 3, Redmi, Mi Wi-Fi and Mi Box, Mi 2S, Mi 1S, among others.

Till date, the company has raised four round of investment having total capital of USD 347 million. it is backed by 2 investors and had made investment in 3 companies including Xunlei, Westhouse and Pebbles interfaces.

Other Chinese firms are also selling its handsets in India include Huawei, ZTE, Lenovo, Gionee and Oppo.

Economic Times says: “Namaste, Mi Fans! We have officially arrived in India. Join us on this incredible journey at,” said a tweet on the company’s official Twitter handle. 

Earlier this month, the company had also roped in Jabong co-founder Manu Kumar Jain to head its operations in India. 

The Indian smartphone market is witnessing strong competition between local and international players, all vying to grab a share of the multi-billion dollar market.

Telecom Talk says: It seems Xiaomi has already kickstarted its Indian operations which includes tieing up with distributors, creating distribution channels and partnering retailers.

In August 2013 Google’s vice president of Android product management, Hugo Barra joined Xiaomi with plans to expand outside China. In 2014 Xiaomi has entered into Taiwan and Singapore, and it seems that India will be the third country outside China where Xiaomi has its footprints.

Fonearena says: Xiaomi makes a range of products that offer compelling specifications & user experiences at a very enticing price point. The product range includes the Mi3, RedMi, RedMi Note as well as a number of accessories. Additionally, Xiaomi has diversified into verticals like 4K televisions. We expect the company will introduce a subset of their offerings including the RedMi at launch. We expect to see the company retail devices via their own web based store as well as e-retailers like Amazon and Flipkart.
