Kirusa acquires mobile messaging app Cooltok

To gain from Cooltok‘s technology and talent, NewJersey based voice messaging and social media mobile apps developer has today acquired the company. The financial details are undisclosed.

Post acquisition, Kirusa will also get access to company’s entire workforce, including the three founders and its intellectual property. This will further help the company in realization of its goal to breing in next generation messaging apps to the users.

Launched in 2012, the Bangalore based Cooltok was an initiative of Sreenivas Karanam along with two co-founders viz. Prakash Kaja and Thomas Mathew. The prototype Cooltok application, available for download from Google Play store, offers features such as text and voice chats, group chats, picture and file sharing, and phone calls. As claimed, its technology works with any data connection.

Kirusa, on the similar lines, develops voice and social media mobile apps for emerging markets. Its InstaVoice app provides mobile users, the facility to integrate telecom messaging such as SMS, Voice SMS, missed calls and voicemail, with OTT messaging such as texts, pictures, location, videos, and group chat, through its partnerships with many mobile carriers around the world.

The year 2014 has marked its beginning with some major messaging app acquisitions including Whatsapp by Facebook (USD 19 billion) and Viber by Rakuten (USD 8900 million).
