Amazon in a bid to hit the crowded smartphone market will soon launch its own, as per a Wall Street Journal report. The phone is expected in the market by September and will be announced shortly in June this year.
Majority of the details are still undisclosed. Amazon has, reportedly, showcased the unreleased version to the selected group of people in San Francisco and Seattle. The main differentiator would be its screen with a capability to showcase 3D images, without the need of any external glasses.
Currently, global players dominating this space are Apple and Samsung, holding a combined share of around 49%, as pointed in the WSJ report. If talked about India particularly, than Samsung is the leading player. It is then followed by Micromax and Karbonn. The current year has also marked with the entry of few new players such as Chinese smartphone manufacturer Gionee and Xiaomi.
Although, it seems difficult to compete, but when players like Blackberry and Nokia can fall, the unpredictability prevails more. Also, with the brand name that Amazon possess, one can really expect the stats to get changed.
Other recent moves of Amazon in hardware space include a Fire Tv which can stream video content over the internet. Also, it has launched the upgraded versions of its Kindle tablets last year.
