Business, Ecommerce adds separate section to buy wearable devices

Amazon, on tuesday, announced the launch of its online store featuring a wide range of wearable technology gadgets. The move aims at providing the consumers a one stop destination to buy as well as educate about the usage of these products.

The site’s wearable device portfolio includes brands such as Samsung, Misfit, Up24 and many more. Also, there is  a learning center with buying guides and a video library. The platform at present focuses on three types of products viz. Activity Trackers, Smart Watches and Wearable Cameras.

Those who are willing to remain updated about the new wearable gadgets, can also get a glimpse of upcoming products on the online store.

The wearable technology market has been growing at a compound annual growth rate of 40.8% from 2012 to 2018, as per a Transparency Market report. It has been predicted that the global market for this space will reach USD 5.8 B in 2018.

Considering the above stats, this move of amazon really makes sense, however it does not certain the arrival of wearable world yet, as stated by Hayley Tsukayama of Washington Post. Also, with majority buyers having less knowledge and experience for these gadgets, can also lead to a more confusion and cart abandonment.

These products are currently available only in US. But, with the existence of, we are expecting the launch soon in India too. Also, a six country survey of more than 6000 people have revealed that consumers in India are most interested in buying wearable technologies and are willing to buy some kind of wearable tech. 80% of Indians were most interested in buying fitness monitors for tracking physical activity and managing their personal health followed by smart watches (76%) and Internet-enabled eyeglasses (74%).
