According to the latest comScore report on smartphone subscriber market share in the U.S. for January 2014, Android is the leading smartphone platform in the country, with 51.7 percent platform market share. It is followed by Apple, which has a 41.6% market share. Apple is also the top smartphone manufacturer with 41.6 percent OEM market share.
159.8 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones (66.8% mobile market penetration) during the three months ending in January, up 7 percent since October. While Apple lead the race, Samsung ranked second with 26.7% market share.
The report also mentioned that Google sites were top destinations for mobile browsers, visited by nearly 89.4% of US mobile users and followed by Facebook with 86.6%. With a reach of 78% Facebook was the top individual app. Considering that Apple is losing ground in the US, it is a great opportunity for App Makers, as now they can target global market just focusing on Android.
