Micromax has recently been seen adding a range of new products to its portfolio. After the launch of MAd A94, a smartphone that pays people for watching advertisements, next in line is its 8-core smartphone, Canvas Knight. The price is initially being set at INR 19, 999 and the consumers can buy the handset only from its website.
The major attraction is the phone’s octa-core MediaTek (MT6592T) processor, coupled with a 2GB ram. As explained by Dr. Finbarr Moynihan, General Manager, International Sales & Marketing, MediaTek Inc, the MT6592T enables users to enjoy heavy web downloading, hardcore gaming, high-quality premium video viewing or other types of rigorous multitasking without experiencing lag times or excessive battery consumption.
Other features include a 5 inch (1080 x 1920) multi-touch display with a IPS lcd touch screen. It comes with a non-expandable internal memory of 32GB and runs on android 4.2 jelly beans. Also, it supports a 16 megapixel rear camera and a secondary 8-megapixel front-facing camera.
When it comes to connectivity it supports bluetooth and wi-fi and provides gps support. It uses Glonass, i.e. Global navigation Satellite System and has geo-tagging, face detection and touch focus features .
The phone will be available in three colors : black, white/gold and black/gold. It comes with a yamaha amplifier and has a good battery life which is non removable li-ion 2350 mAh. Also, it will come preloaded with apps such as BBM, Hike, GetIt, Truecaller, Spuul, Kingsoft Office Suite, etc. along with games such as RealSteel WRB, Where’s My Perry and Where’s My Water.
There are already many players in the market, who are providing smartphones with octa-core processors. However, an initiative to bring in high international quality product by an Indian company, is appreciable. Recently, another Indian company Intex has also launched intexi17, in a tie up with MediaTek, claiming to be the first true octa-core processor for a price of INR 20, 000.
Other smartphones with octa-core processors, currently available in the market includes Samsung Galaxy S4 (INR 40, 690), Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (INR 47, 900) and Zopo ZP998 (24, 000). Also, as per the reports, LG, ZTE and Huawei are busy making their own octa – core processors viz. Odin, WiseFone 7550s and K3V2 respectively.
