Travel as a sector for startups has recently seen a lot of action, with a number of entrepreneurs coming up with a product across the travel spectrum. From travel information to personalised itinerary building – one can find it all on the internet today.
Joining the league is the Times Internet (TIL), the digital arm of The Times of India Group, that has launched its travel portal HappyTrips.com. The idea is to allow users explore unknown locations, and create fun for them wherever they go.
All in all, the portal acts as a platform to help users plan their next trip, discover accommodation and much more, while providing them with fun facts from across the world.
“We are excited to announce the beta launch of our latest venture HappyTrips.com. HappyTrips is special because it feels like a magazine, but is powered by a robust backend data platform, storing millions of related data points. Upfront, the user sees easy-to-navigate cards with curated guides, itineraries and lists to help them find the best of a city they’re exploring,” said Satyan Gajwani, CEO of Times Internet.
The site covers close to 200 Indian destinations as of now and another 100 destinations around the world. The coverage is moreover planned to be enhanced to cover the most important travel destinations in India and around the world.
“Our featured lists and guides help filter through the noise and find the best places to stay, eat, party, or find something to do”, said Puneet Gupt, Business Head of HappyTrips.
Thrillophilia, Poshvine, Getoffurass and Tushky are few other websites HappyTrips is going to compete with in the time to come. But given that the website belongs to the legendary TOI group – the traction they gain in the coming days will be indicative of need for such a product in the Indian market.
