Gaana.com acquires TLabs backed independent music streaming portal, Musicfellas.com

Gaana.com, the Times Internet’s online music broadcasting service has recently acquired  Bangalore based music streaming portal, Musicfellas.com. The deal size and other terms and details have been kept undisclosed. With this acquisition, Gaana.com would have access to independent music that will help the brand further its lead in the market.

Founded in mid 2012 by Mayank Jain, Gaurav Shahlot and Shubhranshu Jain, the idea started as a conversation around a blog post on music, which resulted in the creation of portal. With over 700 Indie music artists across the globe, the music portal was working with an aim to made its mark as a niche Indie music community of India.

With this acquisition, the Musicfellas team will join Gaana.com. One of the website’s Co-Founder, Mayank Jain, will take the role of a developer evangelist at Gaana, helping developers to build similar music apps for the website. This deal will also provide the Gaana team an opportunity to work closely with the fast emerging indie music industry in India.

“We are looking forward to be more active with the startup ecosystem in India to build a large suite of applications on Gaana platform and thus expand the developer ecosystem around our product”, said Pawan Agarwal, Business Head, Gaana.com.

Gaana is one of the popular online music services in India having over 5 Mn monthly active users. Backed by Times Internet, it is closely competing with other Indian platforms. Recently, Gaana.com, has also rolled out its new version 3.0, introducing a new design and features for its web platform.
