China gives a green signal to Dropbox; Rakuten acquires Viber and more

Cloud storage and syncing service Dropbox had gotten blocked in China following the authorities’ claim of discovering politically sensitive material being shared or stored on the site in 2010. Now, as per Tech in Asia, it has been unblocked in the country.

This could be a big step for Dropbox, which is looking to go for an IPO in United States, however China’s own cloud services by Tencent and Baidu offer way more storage (1TB-10TB) than Dropbox’s meagre 2GB. It is also to be noted that Google Drive is still not available in China due to the same restrictions that Dropbox faced earlier.
