In 2006, Amazon Web Services (AWS) began offering its IT infrastructure to businesses. This allowed companies to replace up-front capital infrastructure expenses with an existing technology that can be used to build websites, store data, manage business processes and more.
Amazon Web Services provides a reliable, scalable, low-cost infrastructure platform in the cloud that powers hundreds of thousands of businesses in 190 countries around the world. Businesses utilize their computer power on a pay-as-you-go basis using “Amazon Web Services,” which is a large suite of hosting and computing services.
One of those services, for example, is “Amazon S3″ (Simple Storage Service). It allows companies to store files/content on Amazon’s system and pay as and when the files get accessed. It also facilitates off-site backup or storage of large amounts of data that does not need to be continuously accessed.
The service plays a significantly crucial role for eCommerce businesses as well. It delivers an infrastructure that ensures security, dependability and the ability to handle sudden and/or seasonal spikes in demand. For example using AWS an eCommerce website can easily accommodate a sudden demand for “hot” product caused by viral buzz from Facebook and Twitter without having to upgrade its infrastructure.
But customers of these hosted apps should not be fooled into thinking that they are getting all the benefits of these SaaS solutions. In reality, AWS offers a reliable solution, especially for small and medium retailers, to set up their cloud business technologies with much less investment but its possible that users of these services might not be gaining the greatest innovations via these hosted solutions due to inefficient/incomplete information about the service.
In order to help those who want the best of Amazon for their eCommerce store, IRE 2014 is organising a workshop on “How to Get the Most Out of Amazon Web Services for Your Online Store”. The workshop would guide attendees on how to effectively utilise Amazon’s tools and services to build, distribute, scale, optimize and moreover, monetize the business.
