TCS new initiative to transform Digital Commerce and Customer Centricity

TCS has recently announced the launch of Digital Software and Solutions group to help consumers undergo critical digital transformations.Initially, it would serve three major industries with relatively urgent need, viz. Retail, Communications and Banking and Financial Services.

According to N Chandrasekaran, CEO and MD, TCS, Digital transformation is impacting every industry and in several cases it is imperative to address needed operational changes within the next two years to remain relevant and prosper.

The group’s initial offerings include ‘ Digital Commerce and ‘Customer Intelligence & Insights’. This aims at reducing the total cost of ownership for consumers and to help them in selecting solutions and engagement models that best fit their needs.

Hippocampus raises USD 600K from Unitus Seed Fund, Acumen and angel investors

Hippocampus, a Bangalore based startup leading rural pre-school programs in India have recently raised INR 3.5 crore (USD 600 K). The investors include Unitus Seed Fund, Acumen Fund and Lok Capital. The team plans to utilize the raised funds  to push forward with their expansion plans for the 2014-2015 academic year and continue to invest in preparation for further scaling up.

Based out of Bangalore, the Hippocampus Learning Centre was established by Umesh Malhotra, an IIT Madras alumni. Set up as a private company in 2011, it provides quality learning to children in rural India through its Pre-school education centres.

It operates with an activity-based learning pedagogy with an objective to make kids able to read in pre-school only. In this manner, they’ll be ahead of others and be prepared to “read to learn” for the rest of their lives.

Low-income, rural parents are already seeing the Hippocampus program benefits and are choosing to make the investment to enroll their children even with nearby government-run free alternatives that in many cases also include a free lunch.

Additionally, Hippocampus announced that they are now operating more than 100 rural learning centres in Karnataka serving more than 3,000 students, a 3x increase from the previous school year.

MySmartPrice, a price comparison portal raises INR 6 crores from Accel and Helion

MySmartPrice, a price comparison portal based in Hyderabad recently raised INR 6 crores from Accel Partners and Helion Ventures. The team aims to use the raised funds in focusing over its mobile strategy and expanding further.

Previously, it had raised INR 2 crores of funding in July 2012 from Accel and Helion only at a valuation of around USD 1 Mn.

“Till today, we concentrated on electronics and books categories, and this funding will help us become a horizontal player which will list almost everything sold in India. We have also developed a separate portal for fashion items, and also working on a mobile platform. A portion of the funding will be used towards developing these products”, said MySmartPrice co-founder and director Sulakshan Kumar.

It recently rolled out a revamped version of its app, which has been downloaded around 3 lakh times on Android devices. As reported, the website now receives 9 to 10 Mn visitors a month.
