Amazon India, on Monday announced its plans to open its second fulfillment center in the country. First in South India, this new multi-level facility will be equipped with state-of-the-art warehousing systems and processes.
This will be spread over 150,000 square feet, which can stock and store millions of products across several categories from sellers using “Fulfillment by Amazon”, said Amazon in a press release.
The idea is to continue enhancing its online shopping experience for consumers in India and enable small and medium businesses (SMEs) to get an efficient fulfillment platform by Amazon. This will moreover provide existing and new retailers from South India a closer access to Amazon’s fulfillment service.
Amazon Fulfillment Centers are warehouses where online retailers who use Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) services, stock their inventory of their products. When using FBA, sellers across India send their products to Amazon’s fulfillment centers and once an order is placed, Amazon packs and ships the order to the customer.
“We are very excited by the tremendous response from sellers of all sizes for our Fulfillment by Amazon offering in the short span of seven months since launch of Amazon.in…The launch of the new fulfillment center in Bangalore is part of our continued investment in providing fast and reliable delivery across vast selection of products, and enabling sellers of all sizes to achieve nationwide scale,” said Amit Agarwal, Vice President and Country Manager, Amazon India.
According to the official press release, the new centre will allow sellers to save money as they can replace their upfront capital expense with low variable cost and pay only for the storage space they use and the orders Amazon fulfils. Sellers will also have the flexibility to choose the number of products they want to have fulfilled by Amazon.
The company’s first and current fulfillment center is located on the outskirts of Mumbai, in Bhiwandi, spreaded across 150,000 square-feet area.
