Viber launches Viber Out, a low cost call service for users worldwide

viberViber, the instant messaging app service will now allow its more than 200 Mn users in 193 countries to make low-cost calls to any mobile or landline phone number, using its new feature, Viber Out. The feature was initially launched in Philippines, wherein it partnered with Telcos all over the world including Bharti Airtel from India.

The service can be accessed on platforms such as Android, iPhone and Desktop, with plans to launch it for Windows Phone too in the near future. Also, Viber Out displays the user’s real phone number to the recipient so he or she knows who is calling. Further, on Desktop it has user’s phone address book so he/she don’t have to remember numbers or dial them manually.

As claimed by the company, due to lower per minute rates and the omission of connection fees, Viber Out has a significantly lower price per call than its competitors, specifically Skype. In India only, the cost for a 3 min call on Viber Out through mobile is 14.7 US cents, as compared to 36.5 US cents using Skype.

Below is a table comparing both the services on a 3 minute call basis:Purchasing credit for Viber Out can be completed either through a simple in-app purchase via either the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store or using a credit card via Viber Desktop.

“Viber Out gives our millions of users a new way to use Viber and ensures that they can reach any contact at any time,” said Talmon Marco, CEO of Viber.

Recently, Viber also updated its app for Desktop and Blackberry users and have introduced the features of paid stickers and a Push to Talk.
