This week the sectors which gained attraction of the investors include real time analytics, mobile apps, pool funds, online tutoring & food delivery service and many more. The week marked investment from leading VC’s and angels such as Sequoia Capital, Index Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz , Accel Partners and Tiger Global Management.
Here is a brief overview of some of them:
It raised USD 28 Mn in a funding round led by Sequoia Capital with participation from BRM Group and Gemini Israel Ventures. Based in Israel, the startup provides a real time app to suggest the fastest, most comfortable routes for public transit.
It allows groups to pool funds for objectives in a simple, social, and frictionless way online. The startup raised USD 23 Mn in Series B led by Andreessen Horowitz. Other investors include SV Angel, Sean Parker, Matt Mullenweg, Oliver Jung, DCM, Felicis Ventures, Naval Ravikant, Alexis Ohanian and Elad Gil.
Based in California, Cyanogen provides a customized version of the Android operating system. It raised USD 23 Mn in Series B funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz and Tencent, to expand its workforce and work on its core software, product development, user interface, and design.
Based in Chicago, WyzAnt is an online tutoring marketplace, currently reporting a 120% annual growth rate and $100 million in total gross sales. It raised USD 21.5 Mn from Accel Partners, in order to expand globally and add more engineers, marketers and customer service professionals.
Based in New York and a leading provider of automated marketing personalization solutions, Sailthru raised USD 20 Mn in Series C. The investment round was led by Scale Venture Partners. Through the automated analysis of large data sets, Sailthru Smart Data generates and delivers personalized, omni-channel digital brand experiences. The major clients include Fab.com, Thrillist/Jack Threads, Everlane, Huffington Post and Business Insider.
Based in California, Datameer is an end to end Big Data analytics solution provider for easily analyzing data stored in Hadoop. It raised USD 19 Mn series D round led by Next World Capital with participation from existing investors and Workday, Citi Ventures and Software AG.
Headquartered in San Francisco and a leading traveler engagement platform, Sojern raised USD 10 Mn in Series C. The investment round led by Triangle Peak Partners, with the full participation of existing investors: Norwest Venture Partners, Trident Capital, Focus Ventures and Industry Ventures. Its clients include top brands like Hertz, Hilton, Hyatt, IHG, Las Vegas Tourism, Marriott, Microsoft and many more.
Based in Moscow, Delivery Club is an online food delivery service aggregator. It recently raised USD 8 Mn from Phenomen Ventures as well as from existing investors AddVenture and Guard Capital. Till date it has raised over USD 13 Mn in four rounds of funding including the recent one.
The Walnut, California based startup raised USD 7 Mn from existing investors Accel Partners and Tiger Global Management. It provides customer support software (SaaS) which allows companies to provide multi-channel support via phone, email, chat, website, Twitter and from within Facebook and mobile apps.
The app enables families to connect together and constantly share their location with each other. It raised USD 7 Mn from private equity group Duchossois, adding to a previously announced USD10 million Series B round.
Based in New York, Floored Inc provides clients with an app to show a “virtual reality” model of how a certain property will look upon completion. It raised USD 5.3 Mn in a Series A funding round led by RRE Ventures, to develop its 3D modeling technology for real estate professionals.
It enables open source solutions to be consumed by enterprise level customers. The company raised USD 3 Mn in a funding round led by Mercury Fund with participation from participation from Austin Ventures and other investors. Earlier this year, it has also raised USD 1 Mn in a seed round.
A free domain name provider, Freenom raised USD 3 Mn in Series A funding from a group of investors led by Kima Ventures. With more than 20 million active domain names, Freenom manages the largest domain name portfolio after .COM. The portal earns its revenues by monetizing the expired domain names.
A free mobile application, Robinhood, allows users to read stock news, rate companies, and compare with friends. Also providing a way to do zero commission trading. The startup raised USD 3 Mn in a seed round led by Index Ventures.
An initiative of neuroscientists, Pymetrics aims to make human capital management more scientific with the goal of improved outcomes for job seekers and employees, as well as firms. It recently raised USD 2.5 Mn. The investment was led by Khosla Ventures with participation from a group of angels.
A Brooklyn based laundry startup, FlyCleaners is an Android and iOS based mobile app through which users can summon them for picking, cleaning and dropping their laundry to their doorsteps. It raised USD 2 Mn in seed funding from New York-based venture capital firm Zelkova Ventures and undisclosed angel investors.
It raised USD 1.55 Mn from Khosla Ventures and Max Levchin. The startup builds motivational mobile apps wherein people need to set monetary stakes for meeting their fitness goals. Users enter pledges via app like they will pay USD 5 if they are not able to complete the goal. Also, they earn cash rewards if they complete their goals. The app is currently available on both Android and iOS.
Founded in 2012, Trustev is an eCommerce fraud protection startup providing real time online identity verification using its proprietary social fingerprinting technology. It raised USD 500K from Notion Capital. Recently, it also raised seed round of USD 3 Mn from investors including Greycroft Partners, Mangrove Capital Partners, ACT Venture Capital, Telefónica’s Wayra and Enterprise Ireland.
