Lightspeed ventures, continuing with its spree to invest in mobile and tech startups, have added to the list, Phone Warrior, as announced on its blog. Although, the announcement did not make any mention of the funding amount, as per TechCrunch, the amount raised is USD 550 K.
The funds will be utilized further in order to improve upon the company’s marketing strategies and increase its user base.
Phone Warrior, a New delhi based mobile app startup, is an initiative of tech entrepreneurs Chandan Gupta and Vaibhav Padlikar. It is basically an app which works on the principles of machine learning and crowdsourcing and provides a complete Spam guard on a user’s mobile.
At present, the service is available in the form of caller-ID, spam blocking and call-blocking. and can be accessed over three platforms viz. Blackberry, NokiaS60, and Android.
“What Wikipedia did to encyclopedias and Waze did to radio road traffic reports and paper maps, namely disrupting existing businesses with community, real-time and mobile, Phone Warrior is doing to plain old phone calls and messaging”, as mentioned in the Lightspeed venture’s post.
According to the company’s web page, the app is available for free and is being used across the globe in more than 130 countries.
As reported by TechCrunch, to date, Phone Warrior has blocked over 27 million spam calls and messages currently has 300 million numbers in its database and it’s adding around 10 million new numbers every week. Also, the team plans to launch the app for iOS by January 2014
The other investments of Lightspeed ventures in India include Dhingana, asklaila, Fashionara, IEX, ITZcash, OneAssist, Tutorvista (acquired by Pearson) and limeroad.com
