FoodCloud – an online marketplace for foodies to eat home cooked meals

food-cloudIndia is becoming one of the most sought after destinations for food investments, production and most importantly, consumption. According to a report, the size of Indian food industry, which currently stands at USD 39.71 Bn, is expected to touch USD 65.41 Bn by 2018.

With an aim to capture a percentage of catering and the takeaway sector, ‘FoodCloud’ a Delhi based startup has created an online platform to connect home chefs to people who are looking to order authentic regional home cooked food.food1

The idea is to develop a community marketplace allowing housewives, professional caterers and other cooking lovers to provide an effective monetization platform.

Using FoodCloud, foodies can order home cooked meals created by local chefs in their locality, with the comfort of getting it home delivered. One can order the whole menu for a party or just a few dishes. The website offers an easy user interface with a list of complete chef profiles along with their menus, portion sizes, prices and pictures.

Everything is available online, and cash on delivery is the method of payment hence customers don’t require to use their credit card.

Launched in September 2013, the startup is currently offering its service in Delhi and NCR region. The menu includes regional Indian cuisines like Rajasthani / Marwari, Goan and Kashmiri, as well as international favourites like Italian, Thai, Mexican and Lebanese. The portal has been able to get 7,000 unique visitors per month since their launch two months ago.

Currently bootstrapped, the startup is not planning to raise outside funding and is rather planning to sustain on the revenues it generates by taking a small commission from the chef for each order they receive through FoodCloud.

“Our USP is that we offer fresh home cooked gourmet food, unlike commercialized restaurants. The food is healthier as well, since no preservatives and no excess oil is used. Our chefs cook food that is dear to their hearts and cultures; we have chefs who cook Austrian, Goan, Kashmiri and belong to these cultures,” claims Avani Kanoi, Product Manager at FoodCloud.
