A committee of high ranking officials from Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Department of Telecom and Cabinet Secretariat, in a recent meeting have directed DeitY to plan the next eGovernance plan (NeGP) 2.0 to push the adoption of eGovernance services in the country.
The committee has given DeitY a deadline of December 31, before which the department has to finalise the criteria and format for results-framework document, in consultation with MMP departments and Prime Minister’s Division of the Cabinet Secretary.
The meeting also acknowledged the need to appoint dedicated mission leaders and project teams for mission mode projects (MMPs).
Moreover, it directed the IT Department, which takes care of the eGovernance projects, the job to make a progress report in order to record the impact of NeGP during the XI Five Year Plan.
“The envisaged citizen centric services should be rolled out in Health and Education MMs at the earliest and integrated with e-Taal (Electronic Transaction Aggregation and Analysis Layer),” states an internal note reviewed by The Hindu Business Line. e-Taal is a web portal designed to disseminate e-transactions statistics of National and State level eGovernance Projects including MMPs.
The note also stated that in the past 10 months the number of e-service and e-transactions have increased substantially.
In another recent development, the Indian government has launched a mobile governance initiative under which various government departments will soon start accepting mobile SMS receipts as a valid official document. IRCTC is one such department of Indian government that is already offering m-Seva from months now, by accepting ticket booking SMSes as official travel document to allow passengers for train journey.
As part of the initiative, DeitY earlier developed a mobile application store under the name of m-Appstore. Currently more than 800 central and state government departments are using m-Seva for providing SMS based services.
