Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), a state-owned telecom operator, has launched a smart feature phone called ‘Bharat Phone’ in collaboration with Pantel Technologies, for INR 1799. A tablet and two smart phones were released as well.
Penta Bharat Phone PF300 is a Java powered dual-sim phone which comes with pre-enabled Internet connectivity. It has 64MB of internal memory and upto 8GB expandable external memory. It has a stereo FM, a 1.3MP camera and comes with 1,200 minutes of free talktime from BSNL.
This initiative is targeted at rural India, in order to provide easy and affordable Internet connectivity to the population.
“It gives me immense pleasure to announce the launch of Bharat Phone from Pental Technologies meant for the common man. BSNL always endeavours to serve and work for common man,” BSNL CMD R K Upadhyay told reporters in Delhi on Friday.
The other devices released along with this, include an Android 4.2.2 tablet, Penta T-Pad, worth INR 6,999 and two budget smartphones (PentaSmart PS650 and PentaSmart PS501), costing INR 7,999 and 6,999 respectively.
All the devices come bundled with Internet and STV plans from BSNL.
This news of launching a phone specially for the common man of India, comes in time with the announcement of Indian Government’s plan to provide Internet access to 2.5 lakh gram panchayats. Internet penetration in rural India is surely a step into further development of a country, and will gradually add to improving the standard of living.
