What’s On India to raise USD 4 Mn from IFC


International Finance Corporation, the lending arm of World Bank, is soon going to lead a USD 4 Mn funding round in the Mumbai based What’s On India Media Private Limited, an electronic TV program guide, TV content search and recommendation provider.

According to reports, the funds will primarily be used by the company for product development and business expansion in the Middle East and South East Asia.

What’s On India was founded in 2006 and has raised two rounds of funding one in 2008 led by Sequoia Capital and Nexus Venture Partners and other one in 2011 led by Intel Capital. The company has raised total of USD 13.5 Mn in funding.

It’s a TV Search and EPG Company, its core product provides EPGs at 3 levels of complexities: Entry, Enhanced and Enriched to power Digital TV Set-Top-Boxes, connected devices, OTT platforms and apps.

  • Electronic Programming Guide (EPG): Indexes TV programs/content across 1300+ channels and enables search and selection of digital TV content on set top boxes. The EPG product is provided to digital TV operators (cable digital, DTH and IPTV), device manufacturers and app developers for TV and new TV content consumption platforms such as smartphones, tablets and IPTV.

  • TV Street Maps (TSM): Provides ground reports and data analytics to aid precise

  • distribution and placement for Broadcasters and accurate tariff planning for Operators.

  • Customer Interface Portals (CIP): A cloud based rich media heavy web based subscription management solution (portal) with a personalized recommendation engine, called ARPU enhancer, based on an intelligent algorithm combining user data on preferences, reminders, search, ratings, trends, recording behavior with subscriber details from operators’ billing systems to drive up subscriber take up of customization of channels/packs, integrating the EPG and TSM database.

Last year it had acquired a local EPG company in Amman, Jordan.

The company has operations in the Middle East with What’s On Arabia, which covers 300+ channels in the region. In May this year, Whats On India has expanded its operations in Indonesia under the Brand name – ‘What’s On Indonesia’
